Interactive: How to Redeploy from Iraq
Design Challenge: Center for American Progress had a detailed, comprehensive report on how U.S. forces could responsibly withdraw from Iraq within two years. What was missing was a short, visual way to explain the plan. That’s where I came in.
Solution: An animated infographic couldn’t replace the detailed report; it’s job was to highlight the basics from it and encourage people to explore the plan in more detail. We went through the report, extracting essential phases and key information. A vector-based version of a map of Iraq was animated to show different phases and brigade movements. We recorded a voiceover with report’s author, Larry Korb, to narrate the infographic. The final product was well received and showcased on big screens at a standing-room event promoting the report, serving as a starting point to to open discussion about the redeployment plan.
