Interactive: Plunder and Consumption in Congo

Design Challenge: The Enough Project’s Raise Hope for Congo campaign wanted to show a complex mix of information: more than a century of resource exploitation and plunder in Congo. They had a lot of information, wanted to show areas on a map of the country, and needed to explain changes over time. Oh, and it all had to fit into a small, 490-pixel box.

Solution: I worked with members of the Enough team to streamline their content, divide their historical research into three main periods, and use a tabbed interface to allow users to explore maps of each period to learn about how various resources were exploited and the impact that had on the people of Congo. Together, we refined some of the content and visual elements to help simplify the information, but still keep it detailed enough to make the piece informative. Finally, we created a resources page for visitors to find out more. The people at Raise Hope for Congo were very happy with the finished product.
