Website: How Did This Happen

Image of HowDidThisHappen.org web site Design Challenge: We were asked to design a web site in less than two days to respond to misinformation in the media about the causes of the 2008 economic meltdown. We needed a logo, a visual concept, a flexible page design, and a WordPress blogging theme so that the site could launch within 48 hours of the initial request.

Solution: Designed a bold, red and black logo to convey the sense of urgency and crisis communicated in the content of the site. Integrated the logo into actual headlines from magazine and newspapers to convey the idea of to what “this” referred. Organized the content along a simple three-column grid. Used an introductory blurb at the top of the site to both explain the key idea behind the site and provide links to essential pieces of content. Made the activism and video elements prominent and easy for users to find
