Web Site: KelliCakes!
Design Challenge: Design a web site for a small, home-based cake business that would convey the personality and style of it’s founder. A challenge for this cake business is to convince customers that their product is better than what they can get for less money at the supermarket.
Solution: Part of what KelliCakes is selling isn’t just cakes, but a home-made, gourmet quality that customers can’t get from a grocery store. It was important that this site felt personal, not corporate. So for this design, we worked to build a site that would feel warm, energetic, and vibrant. For that, I used a color palette that mixed pink and magenta colors. Kelli loved polka dots, and so I worked them into the background to lighten up the color a bit and to provide a playful feel. Finally, I made sure that the site itself showed the founder, to give the business a personal feeling.
