Web Ad: The “Pink Slip” Campaign

Design Challenge: Design a small web ad to promote a demonstration about high unemployment outside the 2004 Republican National Convention. The demonstration involved a line of people stretching through downtown Manhattan towards the site of the convention.

Solution: With a small 468x60px canvas and a maximum size of 11k, this web ad can to be economical and efficient. I used a vector map of New York city and some animation to convey the progression of the demonstration, integrating the signature pink “line.” I also overlaid some relevant statistics from the campaign to underscore the point of the demonstration. The ad was very effective in generating sign-ups. The demonstration drew thousands of participants and made the front page of the New York Times thew following day. My little web ad deserves a teensy bit of credit for the event’s success.
