Design Challenge: People for the American Way wanted to build a stand-alone site to serve as it’s home base for several fights over nominations for the Supreme Court in 2005 and 2006. They wanted to build a site that would be packed with information without looking too cluttered or busy.

Solution: I helped develop a clean, open design that would contrast with the dark-blue color scheme of the organizations primary web site. I built in some white space to make the large number of links and headlines seem less overwhelming. Graphics were used, but sparingly. Special CSS was written to make it easy to add pull-quotes to long articles help break long, text-heavy articles. Where possible, dense reports were re-worked as interactive Flash infographics to make the information more reader-friendly. Finally, the design was pulled into MovableType software to allow staff to make frequent updates to the site themselves.
