Web Site: People for the American Way
Design Challenge: People for the American Way had an existing web site and web design. When I went to work for them in 2003, one of my roles was to help establish a better use of style, artwork, and design within their existing template.
Solution: Working within an existing design is always a challenge. My approach with PFAW.org was three fold: a) establish some consistent style and design standards for the “top story” feature and artwork, b) reduce the number of graphical elements on the home page that were inconsistent, c) simplify the home page design by reducing the total number of fonts and type sizes. Ultimately, I think we established a cleaner, more reader-friendly look for the orgnaization’s home page.
